Lucknow: UP govt’s effort to develop Mahoba’s Gorakhgiri Parbat as a tourism destination has culminated and the place will be open to tourists soon.Sharing this on Tuesday, tourism minister Jaiveer Singh said that the site was being developed under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.Mentioning that the govt has spent Rs11.21 crore to improve infrastructure and visitor facilities, he said that Gorakhgiri holds deep spiritual significance as the penance site of Guru Gorakhnath and his disciple Siddhodeepaknath.“With upgraded infrastructure, the site is now ready to welcome pilgrims and tourists,” he said.Mahoba recorded a footfall of 28 lakh visitors in 2025, and such projects will further strengthen the region’s tourism landscape.Set amid Mahoba’s rocky hillscape, Gorakhgiri is expected to attract pilgrims, spiritual seekers and heritage travellers. The project includes key facilities such as the Shivtandav temple and Gorakhgiri temple, a meditation centre, open-air theatre, tourist facilitation centre, sanitation amenities and vendor kiosks to support local livelihoods.A grand entrance gate and well-planned pathways have also been developed to improve accessibility.Local belief also connects the site to Lord Rama’s exile period. The region carries the legacy of Bundelkhand’s legendary warriors Alha and Udal.“The development is expected to boost local livelihoods, with vendor kiosks and tourism activity creating opportunities for small businesses, artisans and service providers in the region,” said additional chief secretary, tourism, culture and religious affairs, Amrit Abhijat.
