Filmmaker and actor Jon Favreau who has helmed and also starred in films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, spilled the beans about his initial opposition about killing off Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark in ‘Avengers: Endgame’.With the release of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ drawing close, and amid the buzz about the upcoming trailer launch, Favreau, in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! shared his concerns about the audience reactions to the character’s demise. The director, who is currently promoting his upcoming Star Wars film ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, said he reached out to directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo to question the decision.Favreau, who helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with his directorial work on ‘Iron Man’ (2008) and starring in the franchise as Tony Stark’s assistant Happy Hogan, shared, “I talked to the Russos, I said ‘I don’t know if people are gonna like … I don’t know, it’s really going to impact people because they were kids that grew up with that character.”However, he ultimately praised how the storyline was executed, adding, “But I have to tell you, it was handled so well by them. And Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert did such a wonderful job acting, and I think it added a poignancy to it. I think they did a wonderful job. I was wrong.”Tony Stark’s death in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, not only concluded the arc of one of its most iconic characters in the MCU, but also marked the close of the Infinity Saga.Robert Downey Jr is now set to return as the famed villain Doctor Victor Von Doom, for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. The films are slated for a December 2026 and December 2027 releases.
