Lucknow: Sonbhadra Police solved the murder of a 12-year-old girl within two hours. Police said a man strangled her after she raised alarm over sexual assault on Monday.According to police, the girl’s body was found in Myorpur on Monday evening.A case was registered under murder charges of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the body was sent for postmortem.Sonbhadra SP Abhishek Verma said that Special Operations Group and surveillance units were formed to investigate the case using technical and manual inputs.Police said the 21-year-old accused lived in the neighbourhood and was a distant maternal uncle of the victim.“During questioning, he confessed that he sexually assaulted the girl and strangled her when she raised an alarm,” said Verma.Based on surveillance, when police cornered the accused he opened fire on them. Police retaliated in self defence and arrested him after an encounter.“We will soon file a chargesheet and appeal to fast track the case,” said the SP.
