Lucknow: RSS national co-publicity chief Narendra Thakur reiterated on Thursday that the organisation was engaged in the task of nation-building through the process of individual character-building.Speaking to the media in Lucknow, Thakur said that discrimination within Hindu society based on caste, language, region and similar factors needs to be eliminated. “To this end, more than 32 affiliated organisations of RSS are actively working across various sectors of society,” he said, adding that RSS’s journey of 100 years has been no ordinary undertaking.“The Sangh works to ensure the glory of Bharat Mata,” he said, recalling the first Sarsanghchalak Keshav Baliram Hedgewar who, he said, believed in being principle-centric rather than personality-centric.“It is for this reason that we have accepted not any individual, but the sacred Bhagwa Dhwaj as our Guru,” Thakur said. The RSS leader said that the Sangh conducted more than 85,000 shakhas daily and more than 32,000 milans weekly.Discussing the Sangh’s future roadmap, Thakur outlined the ongoing “Panch Parivartan” (Five Transformations) initiative within society.“Through the promotion of social harmony, we aim to eradicate every form of discrimination existing within Hindu society,” he said, adding that during the centenary year, people from all sections of society came together and extended their cooperation during various Hindu conferences.Through the `Kutumb Prabodhan’ (family enlightenment) initiative, the Sangh seeks to ensure that if the family unit remains strong and healthy, society as a whole will also remain sound.Likewise, environmental conservation, too, must be recognised as a primary duty of society. Furthermore, the life of society should be rooted in the concept of “Swa” (Selfhood/Indigenous Identity). This sense of indigenous identity should be reflected in our language and attire as well.Responding to a question regarding the UGC guidelines, Thakur said the Sangh does not wish to express a specific opinion on the subject as it was sub judice. He, though, maintained the RSS believed that harmony within society must be preserved.
