Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar, known as much for his razor-sharp wit as his literary brilliance, recently shared an engaging moment with Aamir Khan as they attended an event recently. The exchange unfolded at an event hosted by actor Boman Irani’s scriptwriting initiative, Spiral Bound. The evening brought together several well-known faces, including Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Ananya Panday, and Ishaan Khatter.Aamir Khan who was also seen there, posed a question at Javed Akhtar as to how he has stayed relevant till date with a career spanning across five decades. From the audience, Aamir addressed Javed on stage, saying, “I always enjoy listening to you, so I keep watching your videos on YouTube and even call you afterward. I have a question for you: you have been working in the industry for such a long time. You’ve worked with people of different generations, from those your own age when you began, to younger collaborators as you grew more senior, and now, in your eighties, with people in their twenties. How do you remain relevant across generations?”Sharing the stage with Irani, Javed responded in his signature witty, humourous fashion before tackling the question seriously. “First of all, don’t say ‘eighties,’” he quipped. “Because even 87 falls in the eighties, and I’m only 80. The ‘s’ you’ve added has had a very negative effect on my age.” The witty remark sparked laughter in the room, with Aamir himself smiling and replying, “My apologies.”On the work front, Aamir was last seen in ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ and has recently revealed that a sequel to ‘3 Idiots’ is currently in the writing phase.
