LUCKNOW: At least eight people were killed and several others injured in a road accident in the early hours of Monday, when a speeding car rammed into a group of people who had gathered to rescue victims of an earlier motorcycle collision on the Akbarpur–Jalalpur road in Ambedkar Nagar.According to police officials, the first incident occurred around 12am near the Ashrafpur Bhuwa brick kiln under Jalalpur police station limits, where two motorcycles collided head-on.The impact left both riders critically injured, triggering panic in the area. Hearing the crash, locals and passersby rushed to the spot and began efforts to assist the injured, arranging for their immediate evacuation to a nearby hospital.However, within minutes, tragedy struck again. A car approaching from the Jalalpur side reportedly lost control at high speed and veered into the crowd of rescuers and onlookers standing along the roadside.The vehicle ploughed through the group, knocking several people to the ground and causing injuries.The second impact proved fatal for many. A total of eight people sustained critical injuries in the combined incidents.“Responding to the calls of locals on UP 112, the Jalalpur Circle Officer along with local police personnel reached the scene and, with the help of locals, rushed the victims to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Jalalpur Nagpur,” said Prachi Singh, Superintendent of Police, Ambedkar Nagar.Doctors at the CHC declared six individuals brought dead, while two others in a critical state were referred to the district hospital and subsequently shifted to Tanda Medical College for advanced treatment.Despite medical intervention, both succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to eight, said SP Prachi Singh.The deceased have been identified as Kaifi (32), son of Hasal Mohsin, a resident of Lorpur Tajan under Akbarpur Kotwali; Uttam Kumar (24), son of Jagatpal Nishad, from Semra under Katka police station; Aditya Kumar (25), son of Mayaram, from Jainapur under Sammanpur; and Lalchand (24), son of Feku Ram, a resident of Patti Mohan under Jalalpur.Two unidentified men, aged approximately 35 and 32, are also among those killed, with efforts underway to establish their identities.The two victims who later died during treatment at Tanda Medical College have been identified as Raju Gupta (32), son of Chhedi Gupta, a resident of Sikandarpur under Sambhalpur police station, and Chhotu, son of Mayaram, a resident of Jainapur under Sikandarpur police limits. Police have initiated inquest proceedings and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.Officials said further legal action is being taken in connection with the incident, including efforts to trace the driver of the car and ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the loss of control.Senior police officers confirmed that the situation at the accident site is under control.
