KOLKATA: BJP has delivered a sweeping blow to TMC across eight districts of Bengal — the scale of the victory underlining not just anti-incumbency, but also the saffron party’s growing ability to convert social coalitions, local grievances and organisational strength into a decisive electoral machine. The most dramatic story came from East Midnapore, where BJP completed a clean sweep of all 16 seats, overturning the 2021 picture when TMC held nine.Across the Himalayan and sub-Himalayan belt — Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar — the saffron party dominated. TMC failed to hold ground despite sustained efforts to recover lost support in tea garden areas and among regional communities. In Jhargram, BJP won all four assembly seats, snatching a district that was entirely with TMC in 2021. BJP also won all nine seats in Purulia, another Kurmi-dominated pocket where anti-TMC sentiments prevailed.Bankura followed the same script. BJP won all 12 seats, improving on its 2021 show, when it won eight.
