A sequel to the Tom Cruise starrer ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ appears to be moving closer to production. Over a decade after the sci-fi film first hit the big screens, reports suggest that a sequel is actively in development at Warner Bros.According to industry scooper DanielRPK, the project could begin filming as early as this fall, potentially setting the film up to be Cruise’s next big venture before work begins on ‘Top Gun 3’. Interestingly, this aligns with reports from October 2025 that indicated that the next part in the film franchise was finally moving ahead. This update also follows reports of delays in director Doug Liman’s project ‘Deeper’ which was scheduled to star Cruise opposite former flame, Ana de Armas. The film’s planned August shoot was postponed allegedly due to ‘financing issues’. This has prompted the director and actor duo to turn their focus on the ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ franchise.Director Liman previously confirmed that one of the primary challenges behind developing the film, has been Cruise’s demanding schedule that included work on films like ‘Mission: Impossible’ and ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.‘Edge of Tomorrow 2’ is reportedly eyeing late 2026 to take the film on floors. As per reports, both Cruise and Emily Blunt are expected to reprise their roles. Blunt, who was busy with promotions of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, is also currently shooting the next film in ‘A Quiet Place’ franchise. Blunt had also expressed enthusiasm for her return to the franchise, confirming in August 2023 that the script was complete and that she remained committed to the project. While ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ earned a modest USD 375 million globally against a USD 175 million budget upon its 2014 release, it has since achieved cult status, bolstered by strong home media performance and sustained streaming popularity.
