Lucknow: The state cabinet on Monday approved the transfer of 0.405 hectares of land for setting up a nursing college in Kushinagar under a centrally sponsored scheme. The land, located next to the autonomous state medical college in Kushinagar, will be handed over free of cost to the medical education department. The decision is aimed at strengthening nursing education and addressing the shortage of trained healthcare staff in the state.Officials said that while nursing personnel play a key role in healthcare delivery, the number of nursing colleges remains limited. The new institution is expected to help bridge this gap and improve the availability of skilled professionals.Under the scheme, the Centre has approved 27 nursing colleges for UP, with Kushinagar included among them. Each college will be developed at a cost of Rs10 crore, with 60% funding from the Centre and 40% from the state. The identified land is situated in Padrauna tehsil, close to the main Kushinagar road, making it suitable for development. The govt said the project is expected to create employment opportunities and improve access to quality healthcare services for people in the district and nearby areas.
