Lucknow: In a move aimed at improving the efficiency of judicial functioning, Allahabad high court, including its Lucknow Bench, has proposed extending the tenure of Law clerks (trainee)/Research Associates from two years to maximum of three years.Officials said the proposal comes in view of the increasing pendency of cases and the need to assist judges in legal research, case law analysis, and preparation of relevant material. At present, 135 Law Clerks (Trainee)/Research Associates are engaged to support judges by identifying pertinent legal provisions, precedents, and factual aspects, thereby saving valuable judicial time.Currently, each Law Clerk/Research Associate is paid a monthly honorarium of ₹40,000.The proposed extension is in line with the order dated May 20, 2025, passed by the Supreme Court.
