Lucknow: The state tourism department has approved a Rs 3.72 crore project to restore a historic dharamshala at Naimisharanya and convert it into a modern pilgrim interpretation centre as part of ongoing efforts to develop the ancient spiritual town as a major tourism hub.Officials said Rs 2.98 crore has already been released as the first instalment, with work set to begin shortly. The project will focus on reviving the old structure while integrating visitor-friendly facilities.Restoration plans include structural repairs, conservation of frescoes, facade cleaning and preservation of original architectural elements such as arches.Traditional materials like lime plaster and lakhori bricks will be used to retain the building’s heritage character.The redeveloped space will house theme-based galleries exploring concepts such as cosmic order, evolution, epics and sacred landscapes, aimed at offering an immersive cultural experience to pilgrims.An amphitheatre, sculpture trail, cafeteria and other amenities are also planned to improve visitor convenience and encourage longer stays.Tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh said the focus is on transforming heritage spaces into experiential centres that deepen visitors’ engagement while preserving authenticity.Officials added that the initiative is part of a broader effort to expand the state’s spiritual tourism circuit, alongside developments in Ayodhya, Kashi and Prayagraj.
