AYODHYA: An 11-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped during a village function Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya, police said on Sunday.Police have detained two men in their mid-20s in connection with the incident that took place on Thursday.According to a complaint lodged by the survivor’s father, the girl had gone to a water counter outside the function venue around 8 pm when two men on a scooter allegedly abducted her at knifepoint. The accused allegedly took her to a deserted location outside the village where they raped her, the police said on Saturday.After the assault, the accused allegedly abandoned the girl near a canal.The girl returned home around 9.30 pm and informed her family about the incident on Friday morning, following which a formal police complaint was registered. Ayodhya circle officer Ashutosh Tiwari said, “Based on the written complaint, a case has been registered. Both the accused have been taken into custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.” (The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)(With agency inputs)
