Lucknow: A vibrant display of Bengali culture and tradition was witnessed during Rabindra Sandhya organised to mark the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore at Vishveshwarya Hall on Sunday.The hall resonated with the timeless literary and musical legacy of Tagore as art lovers, theatre enthusiasts and members of the Bengali community thronged the event, which was organised by Bengali Welfare Society.A major highlight of the evening was the staging of Tagore’s celebrated play ‘Mahamaya’ by New Delhi-based theatre group Japonchitro.The powerful performances, marked by evocative dialogues and compelling acting, received applause from the audience.The musical segment featured singer Sraboni Sen, who mesmerised the audience with soulful renditions of Rabindra Sangeet.The prestigious Rabindra Samman 2026 was conferred upon veteran actor and dramatist Padma Shri Anil Rastogi, and sarod maestro Abhijit Roy Chaudhary for their outstanding contributions to art and culture.Adding to the cultural charm, a Bengali book exhibition showcasing literary works and a display of traditional Bengali handicrafts were also organised.Visitors also explored the stalls, reflecting the community’s deep-rooted connection with Bengali literature, art and heritage.A visitor, Raina Mukherjee, said, “I enjoyed watching the play and the velvety voice of Sraboni Sen was truly mesmerising.”
