Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Akhilesh Yadav over the condition of the state’s power sector during the previous Samajwadi Party government. His remarks came amid a political controversy triggered by unidentified posters calling Akhilesh Yadav a “Katiyabaaz” in different parts of the state.Sharma alleged that the electricity system in Uttar Pradesh had deteriorated during the Samajwadi Party government. He claimed that organised electricity theft was widespread during that period and accused leaders, mafias and local strongmen of operating illegal power connections.According to the minister, electricity theft had become systematic in several districts, including Sambhal and Mathura. He said the present govt led by CMYogi Adityanath had taken strict action against such activities and strengthened monitoring in the power sector.Sharma also alleged that transformers, poles and electricity wires installed during the earlier govt were of poor quality, resulting in frequent breakdowns and technical failures. He claimed that the current govt was still dealing with the effects of those shortcomings. He further alleged that appointments in the department were made without merit.
