Nvidia has committed over $40 billion in equity investments in 2026 alone, with $30 billion going to OpenAI and the rest spread across seven public companies and roughly two dozen private startup rounds. The public bets are telling – $3.2 billion in Corning for optical-fibre infrastructure and $2.1 billion in IREN, a Bitcoin miner pivoting to GPU compute. Jensen Huang framed the strategy as ecosystem expansion, but the returns speak louder: a $5 billion Intel stake is now worth over $25 billion. Nvidia is no longer just selling shovels during a gold rush; it’s buying stakes in the mines, the railroads, and the assay offices. No other chipmaker operates at this scale of vertical financial integration, though AMD and Intel have made smaller strategic bets of their own.
