KUSHINAGAR: A 27-year-old man allegedly shot dead his sister-in-law before dying by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district on Wednesday, in a case suspected to be linked to an alleged love affair, news agency PTI reported.As per the report, the incident took place around 9.30am inside a locked room at his in-laws’ house in Basdila Buzurg village.Circle Officer (Tamkuhiraj) Jayant Yadav said Jitendra Prasad, a resident of Bihar’s Gopalganj district, had arrived at his in-laws’ house on Tuesday evening. He had married Shambhu Prajapati’s daughter around 11 months ago.Police said that on Wednesday morning, Jitendra allegedly called his 18-year-old sister-in-law, Naina Kumari, into his room and locked the door from inside. Police suspect that he first shot Naina dead before turning the gun on himself.Family members said they rushed to the room after hearing gunshots but found the door locked from inside. Locals gathered at the spot and alerted police after peeping through a window.Police teams, along with senior officers and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Akanksha Mishra, reached the spot and broke open the door. Both bodies were found inside the room.Police said preliminary investigation suggests the incident may be linked to a suspected love affair, though the exact motive and circumstances are still being investigated.(With agency inputs)
