Lucknow: Doctors at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences on Sunday organized a support group programme for parents whose children suffer from lifelong diseases like Type 1 diabetes.The programme was organised by the departments of endocrinology and paediatric endocrinology for adolescents living with Type 1 diabetes.It focussed on the emotional and mental health challenges faced by both the child and the family, when dealing with such conditions.Dr Romil Saini from the psychiatry department discussed stress, burnout and coping mechanisms with families. Diabetes educators also shared guidance on managing the condition during school, exercise and daily life.People living with Type 1 diabetes shared their experiences to encourage children and parents. Around 50 families attended the programme.Doctors said support groups provide emotional support and help families feel less isolated while managing the lifelong condition.
