NEW DELHI: Star batter Tilak Varma has reaffirmed his deep commitment to Mumbai Indians, declaring that he will not leave the franchise until he helps them lift another IPL title. The 23-year-old batter made the emotional statement after MI’s disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, where the five-time champions failed to qualify for the playoffs.Speaking in a video shared on Mumbai Indians’ official social media channels, Tilak admitted the season did not unfold the way the team had planned. However, he insisted his unfinished mission with the franchise remains his biggest motivation moving forward.“We are really sorry we couldn’t do this year what we thought that we want to win the championship but I’m saying that unless I win championship for MI won’t leave so hopefully it’s coming next year. I’m really proud that I have won the World Cup, Asia Cup, all those things, but the only one thing is remaining for me is winning the championship for MI,” he said.Despite Mumbai’s struggles this year, Tilak’s loyalty and passion have emerged as a major positive for the franchise. The left-hander has continued to develop into one of MI’s most dependable batters and is viewed as a central figure in the team’s future plans.Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders head into their crucial IPL 2026 encounter against Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens with their playoff hopes still alive. KKR have turned around their campaign impressively after a difficult start, winning five of their last six matches to remain in contention for the final playoff berth. However, Kolkata’s qualification scenario remains complicated. Even if they defeat Mumbai, they will still depend on other results involving Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals. MI, already eliminated from the playoff race, are expected to test combinations, while KKR aim to continue their strong run at home and keep their season alive.
