India’s automobile market continued to post strong numbers in FY2025-26, with total vehicle sales across segments touching nearly 2.83 crore units during the financial year. According to the latest SIAM data, this means India bought close to 54 vehicles every minute on average throughout FY26. Here’s a quick look at the detailed stats.Two-wheelers remained the biggest contributor to overall sales volumes, accounting for 2.17 crore units during the year. Passenger vehicle sales stood at 46.43 lakh units, while three-wheeler sales reached 8.36 lakh units. Commercial vehicle sales, meanwhile, touched 10.80 lakh units during FY26.In the passenger vehicle category, Maharashtra emerged as the country’s largest market with sales of 5.64 lakh units during the financial year. Uttar Pradesh followed in second place, while Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu also featured among the top-performing states. Region-wise, western India led passenger vehicle sales with total volumes of 15.28 lakh units.The two-wheeler segment continued to witness massive demand, especially in northern and western states. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest two-wheeler sales in the country at 31.8 lakh units during FY26. Maharashtra ranked next, followed by Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka. Three-wheelers also saw strong demand in several states. Uttar Pradesh topped the segment with sales of nearly 99,000 units, ahead of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Bihar. In the commercial vehicle segment, Maharashtra once again emerged as the leading market with sales of 1.61 lakh units during FY26. Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka were among the other major contributors in the segment.
