Lucknow: Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences is set to launch an online OPD facility within the next four months for follow-up patients with chronic diseases. The move is expected to benefit around 1,500-2,000 patients daily.Director, Prof CM Singh, said the institute had been planning the facility earlier, but the existing Hospital Information System (HIS) did not support online consultations.“We are now changing and upgrading the HIS to accommodate this facility and provide online OPD services,” he said. The online OPD will initially start in four departments that see a large number of chronic patients requiring regular follow-up, including medicine endocrinology, cardiology, nephrology and neurology. It will later be expanded to other departments in phases.Under the system, follow-up patients will be able to consult doctors virtually and access digital prescriptions and medical advice through the integrated HIS platform. Doctors will also be able to view patients’ previous records, investigations and treatment history online.Officials said the facility is expected to reduce unnecessary hospital visits and overcrowding in OPDs, especially for patients coming from distant districts.
