Lucknow: Students of Lucknow University (LU) are conducting the first-ever comprehensive study on the city’s ‘Bada Mangal’ bhandara culture, documenting over 2,100 community feasts organised across the city so far.The initiative, led by the Anthropology Department, aims to analyse the social, cultural and religious dimensions of the long-standing tradition.“We have formed eight teams and divided them into zones so that bhandaras in every area of Lucknow can be covered. This is a sample-based study. Around 1,000 bhandaras were held on the first Bada Mangal, and we have recorded nearly 2,100 this year,” said Udai Pratap Singh, head of the Anthropology Department.
