Veteran politician and former railway minister Mukul Roy died of a cardiac arrest at Apollo Hospital in Salt Lake, Kolkata, at 1:30 am last night. The news was confirmed by his son, Subhranshu Roy. Roy had represented Krishnanagar Uttar as a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Over the course of his political career, he also served as the 32nd railway minister and was elected twice to the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal.One of the founding members of the All India Trinamool Congress, Roy was stripped of his role as the party’s national general secretary in February 2015. He went on to join the BJP in November 2017 before returning to the TMC on June 11, 2021.
