A video circulating online shows a student on a crowded train in Patna appearing to struggle for breath, with many users claiming he died due to suffocation caused by overcrowding and heat while travelling for exam. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also shared it and wrote, “This video has shaken me. These are the helpless young people of India – whose government spends lakhs and crores on its billionaire friends, but cannot even ensure a safe journey for its own students.”“At election time, the same government arranges entire trains. But students going to exams are left with crowds, suffocation, and helplessness. What bigger proof is needed that the Modi government does not want to hear the voice of students. But I promise – we will take this voice to those deaf ears. Every student will get their rights, their justice. June 17, Kota. This voice will now become a roar,” he wrote. However, the Railways denied the death claim. In response to Rahul’s post it said said there was no confirmation of any such death in the incident. The video comes in the backdrop of massive overcrowding in Bihar on June 14, when around 14 lakh candidates reached stations like Patliputra and Patna Junction for police constable and warder exams. The rush led to severe crowding, train delays, track blockages, stone pelting and clashes with police, who used tear gas and lathis to control the situation.
