Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has crossed 2 gigawatts (GW) of installed residential rooftop solar capacity, according to the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).The milestone has been achieved amid increased adoption of rooftop solar systems under the Centre’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which provides financial support for households installing solar panels.Officials said the growth in rooftop solar installations has been driven by participation from consumers, empanelled vendors, power sector agencies and financial institutions involved in the implementation of the scheme.UPNEDA director Ravinder Singh said the expansion of rooftop solar capacity has contributed to greater use of renewable energy in the state. He added that rooftop solar systems can help households reduce electricity expenses while also supporting efforts to lower carbon emissions.According to UPNEDA, UP is among a small number of states that have crossed the 2 GW mark in residential rooftop solar installations.
