Lucknow: The play ‘Meera: Ek Darpan’, based on the life of saint-poet Meera Bai, was staged at Bharatendu Natya Academy on Friday.Directed by Jyoti Narayan Nath, the play presents Meera not only as a historical figure but also as a symbol of courage and inner strength. Through music, movement and theatre, it draws parallels between her struggles and the challenges faced by people in today’s society.The narrative moves between the past and the present, highlighting Meera’s devotion and her refusal to conform to social expectations. It encourages the audience to reflect on questions of personal choice and self-identity.“We wanted the audience to see that Meera’s journey is relevant even today. Her courage to follow her beliefs continues to inspire people,” said Roshni, who portrayed Meera.Another cast member, Pawan, said, “The play shows that every person faces a struggle between society’s expectations and their own truth. That message is timeless.”Director and writer Jyoti Narayan Nath said, “Meera is not just a part of history. She is a mirror through which every generation can understand itself and its values.”The show was presented by artists of Bharatendu Natya Academy.
