Lucknow: During a special three-day crackdown by Lucknow Traffic Police on vehicles plying without registration number plates, most violators were owners/drivers of four-wheelers. Traffic police booked 105 four-wheeler vehicles and 12 two-wheelers without registration number plates.“Vehicles without registration plates pose a serious challenge as they are difficult to trace in cases of accidents, hit-and-run incidents, traffic violations and other crimes,” said DCP traffic Raveena Tyagi.“Displaying a valid and clearly visible registration number is not just a legal requirement but also a matter of public safety,” DCP Traffic said, adding, “Vehicles without number plates make enforcement difficult and can affect the process of identifying offenders or providing justice to victims in the event of an accident or crime.”Traffic police also warned against the use of fancy, modified or obscured number plates, saying such practices violate traffic rules and attract penalties. Action against offenders may include challans, vehicle seizure and other legal measures.Officials clarified that even newly purchased vehicles cannot be driven without displaying a valid registration number or temporary registration number. The absence of a high-security registration plate, they said, is not a valid excuse for operating a vehicle without visible registration details.
