Lucknow: The management of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has made it mandatory for students to read one prescribed book every day for at least an hour and submit a review report as part of a new initiative to promote reading habits among young learners.The move has been made mandatory following directions from Governor and Chancellor of state universities Anandiben Patel. The exercise will be implemented across all 756 colleges affiliated with AKTU.An order to this effect was issued by AKTU registrar Reena Singh. According to the directive, institutions have been asked to ensure that students devote one hour to reading a book and prepare a review based on their understanding of the text.Colleges have also been instructed to compile the reviews submitted by students and make them available to the university’s designated nodal and co-nodal officers for monitoring and record-keeping.University officials said the initiative was introduced in response to a gradual decline in reading habits among students.“On the directions of the chancellor, the university has decided to encourage students to develop a culture of reading by making them read books and write review reports,” an official said.The university has directed all affiliated institutions to ensure timely compliance with the order and submit the required reports within the stipulated timeframe.
