NEW DELHI: Shortly after an intense dust storm and strong winds swept across Delhi-NCR on Tuesday afternoon, rainfall was reported in parts of the region, prompting the IMD to issue a red alert for severe thunderstorms, lightning and rain over the next few hours.According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by dust storms is likely at isolated places across the city, accoridng to news agency ANI. The weather office also warned that severe thunderstorms with lightning and squally winds reaching speeds of 80-100 kmph are very likely over most parts of Delhi during the next few hours.In a nowcast warning — a short-term localised weather alert — the IMD placed most areas of the national capital under a red alert, indicating the likelihood of severe weather conditions.The weather office said the warning has been communicated to district authorities and disaster management officials, who have been advised to take necessary precautions.Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while the maximum temperature is expected to settle around 40 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.
