Lucknow: Initiating the process of fee waiver scheme, the secondary education department has sought details of tuition fees charged from students enrolled in classes IX to XII in private schools affiliated to CBSE, ICSE and UP Board from seven districts – Kanpur Nagar, Agra, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Meerut, Saharanpur and Lucknow.Joint secretary, secondary education department, Sanjay Kumar asked the director, secondary education and district inspector of schools (DIOS) of these seven districts to provide the details latest by June 25.This comes after the govt announced waiving the fee for one of the two sisters if both are studying in the same school. The women welfare department has been shortlisted for implementation of the scheme. The govt also made a budgetary allocation of Rs 100 crore for the scheme earlier this year.Announced in 2021 by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the scheme encouraged school management to waive the fee of one girl if two real sisters studied in the same school. “If more than one girl child from a family living below the income limit set by the govt is studying in a school, college or institution, then it is proposed to either waive the tuition fees of the second girl child as an incentive to the institution or reimburse it by the state govt,” said an official.
