Lucknow: Kushinagar village mourned the demise of its son, Captain Aman Kumar Singh, 25, by lowering the volume of ‘azaan’ and urging the community to keep Ramzan celebrations low-profile, on Monday. Posted in Kupwara district of Kashmir, Captain Aman of 20 Rajputana Rifles collapsed while on duty at a military location on Sunday. “He was administered first aid by the unit medical officer and subsequently airlifted to 92 Base hospital, Srinagar, where despite medical intervention, he couldn’t be revived,” said Wing Commander Debartho Dhar, PRO, defence, Prayagraj, “We lowered the loudspeaker volume after hearing about Aman’s demise as we all knew the family. In fact, he was the family,” said Zulfikar Khan, the mosque’s caretaker. “Ramzan announcements, usually made four times, were now done only once. The village is proud of its local hero and wishes to mourn over the loss,” said Zaheer Hafiz, the mosque’s caretaker. Commissioned in Dec 2023, Aman had visited his native village Bakhrabad ward II of Abdul Hamid Nagar recently after being promoted as Captain in Dec 2025.His ancestral home is stone throw away from a local mosque in the village.The Chinar Corps of Northern Command also expressed condolences on the demise of Captain. “Army honors the sacrifice of the captain. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family,” said Chinar Corps. Aman was the only child of his parents—Jaswant Singh and Vibha. The couple lives in Varanasi, where Jaswant works as an engineer in a private company. Both went to Srinagar to bring the mortal remains of their son. “Aman was the only one who had joined the defence force. After pursuing engineering, he joined the army via technical entry. He was a bright boy,” said Tej Bahadur Singh, relative of the deceased officer.
