Lucknow: With supply concerns triggered by the West Asia crisis now easing, the Centre has decided to restore commercial LPG supplies to normal levels, ending the restrictions imposed to ensure uninterrupted domestic cooking gas availability. In a communication to all state and union territory chief secretaries, petroleum secretary Neeraj Mittal said the govt has removed all sectoral restrictions on non-domestic LPG supplies. Bulk LPG supplies have also been partially restored, with consumption limits relaxed to 50% of pre-crisis levels. The ministry has, however, made it clear that businesses that have already shifted to piped natural gas (PNG) must continue using it. Commercial consumers who can access local PNG networks will also be encouraged to make a permanent switch in coordination with City Gas Distribution companies.Oil marketing companies have been asked to maintain a unified database of commercial and industrial LPG consumers and regularly share transition details with the ministry to ensure smooth implementation of the revised policy.
