Akhilesh said the BJP govt had no development work to its credit and was instead marked by scams and widespread corruption. “Corruption is at its peak, while people are struggling with rising inflation and unemployment,” he said, adding that the public was eagerly waiting for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections to remove the BJP from power. “Only after the BJP exits will the Constitution and democracy be restored,” he claimed. Citing examples, Akhilesh alleged poor quality of infrastructure works carried out in the state. He claimed that a newly constructed CC road in Konch, built at a cost of Rs 23 lakh, started deteriorating within two months, while a road project worth Rs 35 lakh in Mahoba’s Ukhara village also began peeling soon after construction. He further alleged that newly built water tanks collapsed shortly after completion, attributing such failures to corruption. He said the BJP repeatedly promised pothole-free roads, but instead, potholes increased, leading to frequent accidents and deaths. “In many places, roads are no longer visible—only potholes remain,” he remarked. The former CM also flagged concerns over unemployment, claiming that youth were not getting jobs and were lathi-charged when they demanded employment. He alleged irregularities in recruitment processes, saying examinations were often delayed or cancelled. He further claimed that teachers faced humiliation, traders were burdened with new regulations, and law and order had deteriorated. On governance, he alleged that Uttar Pradesh was witnessing a breakdown in public safety, citing concerns over custodial deaths, crimes against women, and rising incidents of robbery and harassment. He also criticised the condition of public education and healthcare, claiming that govt schools were seeing declining enrolment and hospitals lacked adequate medicines and treatment facilities. Accusing the BJP of relying on false statistics and fabricated claims, the SP chief said the party’s “double-engine govt” had failed on all fronts and was acting as a protector of illegal land-grabbing activities.
