SRINAGAR: A civilian was killed Saturday after coming into contact with an “old explosive object” that went off in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.The deceased was identified as Zubair Ahmad Bajjad, a resident of Chandoosa area near the Line of Control (LoC) where instances of old mines going off are sometimes reported. In this case, J&K police have not specified whether it was an old mine and said investigations were underway to determine the exact nature of the object.“A forensic examination of the scene has been conducted, and specialist teams are carrying out thorough sanitisation of the area as a precautionary measure to rule out presence of any other unexploded explosive material,” the police said in a statement.The area is in a remote Gujjar shelter in the upper reaches of Baramulla. The police said they received information about the explosion around 3pm. Teams rushed to the spot soon after and found Bajjad dead.
