Lucknow: To promote evidence-based research in the AYUSH sector, Lucknow University’s botany department has been designated as the nodal institution for a prestigious national project aiming at the scientific standardisation and authentication of medicinal plants used in homeopathy.For the purpose, the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) under the ministry of AYUSH, govt of India, has given a grant of Rs 74.8 lakh.The project will be led by botany department head, Prof Gauri Saxena, who will be the principal investigator with Kavita Arora as co-principal investigator.A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between LU and CCRH in this regard.“As part of the project, researchers will undertake systematic collection and ecological documentation of 18 medicinal plant species included in the National List of Essential AYUSH Medicines (NLEAM),” said LU spokesperson, Mukul Srivastava.Officials said the initiative represents a significant convergence of India’s traditional medicinal knowledge with contemporary scientific research.
