LUCKNOW: A 24-year-old man died of electrocution while accompanying his younger sister to her B.Ed examination in Gonda on Tuesday. His 20-year-old sister sustained serious injuries while trying to rescue him and is undergoing treatment at Gonda Medical College. The incident took place near Lal Bahadur Shastri Degree College, where Prachi had reached to appear for her final-year B.Ed paper. The siblings, residents of Bagadwa village under Huzoorpur police station in Bahraich, had reportedly taken shelter near a municipal street light during a spell of light rain when the mishap occurred.According to police, the street light installed near the Model Vending Zone outside the college had become live. Vimal, son of Shrikant, came into contact with the electrified pole and was fatally shocked. As Prachi attempted to pull him away, she too received an electric shock and suffered severe injuries. Both were rushed for medical attention, where doctors declared Vimal dead. Prachi was admitted to Gonda Medical College, where her condition is stated to be serious.City Kotwali SHO Bindeshwari Mani Tripathi confirmed the victims were siblings. “Preliminary findings suggest current leakage in the municipal street light. We are probing how the pole became live and whether there was any negligence on the part of civic authorities,” he said.Police said the family has been informed and further legal action will follow based on the outcome of the investigation.
