Lucknow: Expressing concern over the low pass percentage in govt Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state, vocational education, skill development and entrepreneurship minister Kapil Dev Aggarwal on Tuesday directed officials to submit a corrective action plan within 15 days.Chairing a departmental review meeting, Aggarwal said improving the quality of ITI education and achieving better examination results are among the govt’s key priorities. The minister further instructed the Directorate of Training to hold a special review meeting with principals and joint directors to identify the reasons behind poor results and prepare a concrete roadmap for improvement. “Underperforming institutions will be closely monitored and, if necessary, issued notices for their poor performance,” he said.During the meeting, the minister emphasised the need to enhance the quality of training in ITIs through regular inspections, reviews of workshops and machinery, and direct interaction with students. He also directed officials to furnish data on regular industrial visits conducted by ITI students.The meeting also discussed a proposal to organise ‘Udyam Mela’ across nodal govt ITIs in the state. Aggarwal directed that career counsellors should actively participate in the event and that a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) be prepared for its effective implementation.He further instructed officials to expedite the proposed collaboration with Adani Skills to expand industry-oriented training and employment opportunities for youth.In addition, the minister directed officials to strengthen the ITI admission campaign by conducting awareness programmes in schools. “Students should be informed about the career and employment opportunities available through vocational education and skill training,” he said.The meeting also discussed strategies to integrate skill development, industry partnership, quality training and employment generation to establish UP as the country’s leading skill development state.
