Lucknow: The chilling murder of a man by his son in the Aashiana area raised serious questions about the psychological state of the accused, with clinical experts pointing to a combination of emotional vulnerability, internal conflict, and prolonged pressure.Clinical psychologist and counsellor P K Khattri described the boy as being at a critical transitional age. “Around 20 years is often referred to as the ‘age of storm’, where individuals struggle to process emotions and understand others’ feelings. There is heightened impulsivity, confusion, and sometimes the emergence of neurotic or behavioural disorders,” he said. According to Khattri, such behavioural patterns may fall under what psychology terms “conduct disorder”, where emotional regulation and moral reasoning can become impaired. He noted that the accused appeared to have ambitions that conflicted sharply with his father’s expectations. “The father reportedly wanted him to pursue medical studies, while the son aspired to become a businessman, planning an MBA and a large-scale venture, though without clear direction,” he explained. The expert also highlighted a deeper emotional void. The accused lost his mother in 2017, a factor that may have significantly impacted his mental wellbeing. “Typically, a male child shares a strong emotional bond with the mother. Her absence can create a lasting sense of loneliness and emptiness,” he said. Combined with constant parental pressure, this unresolved grief may have led to a breakdown.
