Lucknow: Getting a coaching centre registered in UP will become tougher, with the state govt tightening safety scrutiny after the Aliganj fire tragedy. Coaching institutes will not be allowed to operate unless they meet all mandatory safety and regulatory norms. The move comes in the wake of the Jun 22 Aliganj fire that claimed 15 lives. The govt has decided that coaching centres will be granted permission to operate only after securing approvals from all departments concerned.Under the new mechanism, approvals from the fire department, development authority, municipal corporation and electricity department will be integrated on a single digital platform. A coaching centre will receive a licence only after all four departments clear the application. At present, approvals are processed separately, allowing some institutes to start operations despite pending clearances. Officials said the integrated system is aimed at preventing such gaps and ensuring that coaching centres comply with prescribed safety standards before opening. The govt will digitise the entire approval and monitoring process. Records maintained by the four departments will be linked on a common platform, enabling authorities to verify fire safety clearances, building approvals and other mandatory permissions before granting licences to coaching institutes. The govt has issued 22 directives to strengthen fire safety measures and improve coordination among departments. All development authorities, housing bodies and municipal corporations will implement the new system. Coaching centres found violating safety norms will be stopped from operating. Officials who allow unauthorised operations despite violations may also face action.Officials said the common platform will reduce discrepancies between departmental approvals, improve transparency and make inspections of coaching centres easier to track.
