Lucknow: Lucknow University is set to revive admissions to its doctor of letters (D.Litt.), doctor of science (D.Sc.) and doctor of laws (LL.D.) programmes after an 18-year hiatus.University officials approved the ordinance governing the award of the three degrees. “Admissions will commence once the ordinance receives formal approval from the Jan Bhavan, following which the university will issue an official notification and invite applications,” said LU spokesperson Mukul Srivastava.He said under the new ordinance, the D.Litt. programme will be offered in the faculties of arts, education, commerce and fine arts, while the D.Sc. programme will cover science, engineering and technology and pharmacy. The LL.D. degree will be available for scholars in the faculty of law.According to LU officials the ordinance prescribes rigorous eligibility norms aimed at ensuring high-quality research aligned with global academic standards.Applicants must hold a Ph.D or an equivalent degree from an Indian university or a foreign university recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). They should also have at least five years of regular substantive experience in teaching, research, administration or a related professional field after obtaining the doctoral degree.
