Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has uncovered an alleged counterfeit supply of anti-inflammatory and antibiotic medicines during a statewide drive against spurious drugs, seizing suspected fake stocks of Chymoral Forte and Gudcef Plus.FSDA officials said a raid conducted near Alambagh metro station in Lucknow on July 6 led to the seizure of 4,800 tablets labelled as Chymoral Forte and 2,940 tablets labelled as Gudcef Plus, with an estimated value of Rs 1.6 lakh. Authorities said discrepancies in packaging and printing on the Gudcef Plus strips raised suspicion that the product was counterfeit. A man from Varanasi was arrested.Based on leads, FSDA teams, accompanied by police, carried out a second raid at a medical establishment in Varanasi. Officials alleged that medicines worth around Rs 25 lakh were found stored without a valid drug licence. Twelve samples of suspected medicines were collected for laboratory testing, and the remaining stock was seized. Another accused was arrested in connection with the case.Investigators said they are examining possible links to a wider operation involved in the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit branded medicines across districts. In the broader enforcement campaign, the FSDA inspected 25 pharmaceutical firms in Lucknow and other locations to check for spurious products, relabelled expired drugs, unauthorised sale of physician samples and irregularities in procurement records. The department collected 52 drug samples for testing and suspended operations at 12 firms for alleged violations of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.In the broader enforcement campaign, the FSDA inspected 25 pharmaceutical firms in Lucknow and other locations to check for spurious products, relabelled expired drugs, unauthorised sale of physician samples, and irregularities in procurement records.
