Lucknow: A moderate shower on Thursday left several low-lying localities in the city waterlogged, exposing gaps in the Lucknow Municipal Corporation’s monsoon preparedness. Accumulated rainwater disrupted traffic across multiple stretches, forcing commuters to wade through flooded roads and slowing vehicle movement.Hussainabad, one of the city’s major tourist hubs, was among the worst-hit areas. Residents reported that within about 30 minutes, nearly a foot of water collected near the historic Clock Tower and adjoining lanes, partially submerging parked motorcycles and creating long traffic snarls.Locals blamed clogged drains and inadequate desilting for the repeated flooding. “The water rose so quickly that it became difficult to cross the road. Every year we face the same problem despite claims of drain cleaning,” said Mohammad Arif, a resident of Chowk. In Sarojini Nagar Ward-II, residents said water levels rose even higher, with roads submerged under nearly 2 feet of water within minutes of the downpour. “We repeatedly requested officials to clean the Ashram Road drain and remove encroachments. Just a few minutes of rain flooded the entire area, forcing people to walk through dirty water,” said Rajesh Yadav.LMC officials said quick-response teams equipped with water pumps and suction machines were deployed across zones to address complaints and clear waterlogged stretches.
