Lucknow: Commuters passing through the busy Polytechnic Crossing may get relief from daily traffic snarls, with plans for a 700-metre-long underpass at the intersection. The proposed underpass will run from near the HAL gate, pass beneath the Polytechnic Crossing and extend up to Wave Cinema on the Lucknow-Ayodhya Road. The project, estimated to cost Rs 90 crore, has been prepared by the Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam and sent to the state govt for approval. The demand for the underpass was raised by Lucknow East MLA OP Srivastava during the budget session of the state assembly in February. Officials said construction will begin after the project gets financial approval.More than 50,000 vehicles use the Polytechnic Crossing every day. Around 15,000 to 20,000 of these travel towards Ayodhya Road and Gomti Nagar, leading to heavy congestion during peak hours.
