Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham etched their names into the FIFA World Cup record books on Saturday, becoming the first two players from the same country to score six or more goals in a single edition of the tournament. The historic feat was achieved during England’s dramatic 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway in the quarterfinals, a result that booked the Three Lions’ place in the World Cup semifinals for the first time since 2018. Bellingham starred with a match-winning brace, scoring England’s equaliser before netting the decisive goal in the third minute of extra time. The two strikes took the Real Madrid midfielder’s tally to six goals at the 2026 World Cup, drawing level with captain Harry Kane. The pair have now become the first teammates from the same nation to each score at least six goals in a single World Cup, setting a new tournament benchmark. Bellingham’s latest heroics came after he had also struck twice in England’s Round of 16 victory over Mexico. He now sits joint-third in the tournament’s scoring charts alongside Kane, trailing only Norway’s Erling Haaland on seven goals and leaders Lionel Messi of Argentina and Kylian Mbappé of France, who have eight each. England had fallen behind in the 36th minute after Andreas Schjelderup gave Norway the lead. However, Bellingham responded before halftime to restore parity before producing the winner early in extra time. The victory also ended Haaland’s run of scoring in every match at the tournament, with England’s defence keeping the prolific striker off the scoresheet for the first time. England are now one win away from reaching their first World Cup final since 1966. Thomas Tuchel’s side will face Argentina in the semifinals after the defending champions defeated Switzerland later on Saturday.
