Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday appealed to internationally acclaimed educator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his fast-unto-death, saying his life was a “priceless asset for the world”.Wangchuk has been on hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for the past 17 days. According to the latest health bulletin released on Monday, he has lost 8.2 kg during the protest.“Your commitment to humanity and the environment is as unwavering as your commitment to democracy. BJP govt, before which you have resorted to a fast-unto-death, is unprincipled and corrupt. It is insensitive and stone-hearted, and does not value sacrifice. Expecting the BJP to undergo a change of heart is meaningless,” Akhilesh said.He alleged that the BJP did not value human life.“People who can rob temples for the lure of satta will never understand the importance and significance of satyagraha,” he said.Akhilesh added that the BJP had “nothing to do with the future of the youth or the dreams of their parents and families”, calling its leaders “selfish”.The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said he was confident Wangchuk would continue to be a “source of light” against negative forces and would uphold people’s rights and democratic values.
