Lucknow: To mark World Plastic Surgery Day, a Walkathon was organised by Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences’s department of plastic surgery and burns, at Lucknow Golf Club on Wednesday.The event was inaugurated by chief guest Rajeshwar Singh, Sarojini Nagar MLA and guest of honour was Rajneesh Sethi, secretary of Lucknow Golf Club.Participants carried colourful placards and banners highlighting importance of plastic surgery in the management of birth defects, burns, trauma, cancer, hand injuries, facial deformities and cosmetic concerns.Faculty members, doctors, resident doctors, nursing staff, operation theatre personnel, technicians, golfers, tennis players, morning walkers and public participated in the event.Professor and Head, Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns, SGPGIMS, Rajiv Agarwal, delivered an awareness lecture, highlighting the vast scope of the specialty, including reconstructive surgery, microsurgery, hand surgery, craniofacial surgery, burn care, cosmetic surgery, and post-cancer reconstruction.He added, “Plastic surgery is far more than cosmetic surgery. It is a specialty that restores function, appearance, and self-confidence to patients affected by congenital anomalies, trauma, burns, cancer, nerve injuries, and many other complex conditions.”
