The inspection was conducted by regional inspector Vishnu Kumar, whose preliminary report flagged multiple lapses. The emergency exit system was either non-functional or not equipped with prescribed safety standards, potentially hampering evacuation during the accident. Further, the size of the seats was reduced to install additional units, leading to overcrowding and restricted aisle space. Experts noted that such modifications disturbed load balance, increased instability, and adversely impacted braking and handling, especially at high speeds. Officials suspected deliberate tampering with approved design specifications to maximise revenue, in clear violation of transport and fitness norms. Further action was underway. The technical inspection covered multiple critical components of the vehicle, including the braking system. Officials assessed brake efficiency, checked for fluid leakage, worn-out brake pads or liners, and the proper functioning of the handbrake, which was worn out and required an upgrade. The steering mechanism was examined for excessive free play, along with the condition of joints and linkages. Tyres and wheels were inspected for signs of bursts, blowouts, insufficient tread depth, or structural damage. Authorities also evaluated the vehicle’s structural integrity, including the chassis frame, body condition, door latches, and hinges.
