Lucknow: A drug trafficker from Barabanki district was given a detention for one year under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, 1988, citing his long-standing involvement in narcotics trafficking and repeated criminal activities.According to Barabanki Police, the detention order was issued by the UP govt under section 3(1) of the PIT-NDPS Act against Osama alias Usama, a resident of Tikra Usma village under Jaidpur police station in Barabanki district.Officials said Osama has been listed as a habitual criminal. A history sheet (No. 46-B) was also opened at Jaidpur police station to monitor his alleged involvement in drug trafficking.According to police records, the accused has 10 criminal cases registered against him, including four cases under the NDPS Act and six cases under other criminal laws.Police said one of the most significant recoveries linked to the accused was made in 2023, when Loni Katra police arrested him along with his associates and allegedly seized 23.490 kg of illegal morphine (smack) valued at approximately ₹5.16 crore in the international illicit market.The accused is currently lodged in the District Jail, Barabanki, after being arrested in a case registered under NDPS Act.
