NEW DELHI: Suspected terrorists opened fire on a police party in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday, injuring a police personnel, officials said.The attack took place around 12.30 pm near Lal Chowk in Anantnag town, when the assailants fired at the police team, officials said.The injured policeman was rushed for medical treatment, while security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. Further details are awaited.In a separate incident, an Army personnel died after accidentally falling from a height near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Wednesday, officials said.The deceased, identified as Rifleman Sukhpreet Singh (27), was on operational duty at the forward Mahadev post in the Sunderbani sector when he reportedly lost his balance and fell from a height, resulting in fatal injuries, officials said.His body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have initiated inquest proceedings, officials added.Following the completion of legal formalities, the soldier’s mortal remains will be taken to his native place in Punjab, where he will be accorded the last rites.
