Lucknow: The UP BJP is set to complete the ground-level organisational overhaul soon by appointing the remaining five district presidents and the over 80 mandal presidents to bolster its preparations for the next year’s assembly electionsParty sources said state president Pankaj Chaudhary and the state general secretary (organisation) Dharampal Singh have finalised the names of remaining district presidents for getting it endorsed by the central leadership. This will be followed by the constitution of the district-level committees, the key organisational body that stirs the party’s public outreach at the grassroots. The party decided to get the mandal-level presidents elected at the local level. The party has completed the process of electing over 1,800 out of 1,918 mandal presidents, the organisational functionaries that act as a bridge between the district body and the booth-level set-up. “The party is expected to complete the organisational rejig by March end,” said UP BJP spokesperson Hero Bajpai. With polls approaching, BJP’s focus on completing the appointment of the remaining district presidents and mandal presidents reflects urgency, analysts said. District and mandal units form the backbone of election management in politically dense state like Uttar Pradesh, where booth-level arithmetic often determines outcomes. Sources said the party aims to close organisational gaps, prevent factional drift, and ensure that the message of discipline is relayed from state to the booth level. Sources said the district-level organisational set-up will eventually pave the way for the constitution of the state team, essentially comprising the state vice-presidents, general secretaries and the six regional presidents. The development, analysts said, would mark a critical escalation in pre-election preparedness by the BJP. UP BJP sources said the appointment of the state team will showcase the party’s social engineering as it gears up for UP polls. The process will also see accommodation of the senior organisational leaders, besides robust representation of leaders from six different regions.
