Lucknow: A Class IX girl hanged herself at her home under the City Kotwali area of Hardoi district. She wrote the name of a youth on her hand using mehndi before hanging herself, police said.According to family members, the girl studied at an inter college in a neighbouring village. On Thursday, she received a phone call from a youth from the same village. The call was answered by her elder sister, who asked him to speak to their parents instead.Later, the girl ate dinner with her family and went to her room. When her mother went to check on her, she found her hanging. Family members rushed her to the govt medical college. She died around 2.45 am on Friday.The girl’s father claimed the youth had been troubling his daughter and said she was under stress. He, however, acknowledged that the two shared a close relationship.Circle officer Ajit Chauhan said preliminary investigation points to suicide. He added that the youth’s name was found written on the girl’s left hand and no formal complaint has been received from the family so far. Further action will be taken if a complaint is lodged, he said.
